About the event:
On 8 July 2021 the new BMG and GHHG digital discussion series Shaping health globally – from the German Global Health Strategy to shared commitment was launched with engaging and fruitful discussions on the topic of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention: Lessons Learned from Cooperation in the HIV/AIDS Epidemic.
The new discussion series puts a spotlight on the German Global Health Strategy which was adopted in October 2020. Both German and international experts and practitioners will discuss some of the main Global Health challenges that are being tackled by the Federal Government as part of its commitment presented in the strategy. The first event focused on the HIV/AIDS pandemic. A panel of experts gave insights into the past and current situation of global HIV/AIDS prevention, and expressed recommendations for the future.
We had the pleasure of welcoming four highly knowledgeable guests who could provide different point of views: Binod Mahanty (Federal Ministry of Health, BMG) and Alexander Freese (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ) presented first-hand information on the vast work of German ministries, presenting lessons-learned from institutional, bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Ellen M.C. Mubanga (National AIDS Council, Zambia) spoke about recent developments and challenges encountered in the field of health promotion in Zambia while, Peter Wiessner (Action against AIDS, Germany) gave a valuable perspective from German civil society. The discussion was moderated by Dr Christoph Benn (Joep Lange Institute), who enriched the exchange with his own expertise in the field of HIV/AIDS.
