Significant differences in voter turnout 

The Steering Committee is the governing body of the Hub. It is responsible for strategic planning, further development and content-related orientation. The steering committee is composed of an equal number of representatives from each of the eight stakeholder groups. With the exception of government members and secondary agencies, all members are eligible to vote in the Hub and have two votes each, which they allocate within their stakeholder group - one vote for a woman and one vote for a man. Of the 1,207 members eligible to vote, 15% exercised their right to have a voice and cast their votes via the POLYAS online voting platform from April 27 to May 18, 2022. The highest voter turnout, with 20%, was in the youth stakeholder group. The lowest turnout was in the business stakeholder group with 12%. 

The Winning Candidates at a Glance 

The seven non-state actor groups of International Organizations/International Experts, Youth, Foundations, Think Tanks, Private Sector, Science and Research and Civil Society nominated 33 candidates for election. Below are the candidates with the most votes who will receive a seat on the new steering committee: 

International Organisations/Experts:  

• Julia Fitzner, World Health Organization: 71% of the votes received  

• Andreas Ullrich, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin: 86% of the votes received

Youth:  

• Sophie Gepp, National Representation of Medical Students in Germany e.V.: 87% of the votes received

• Paul-Philipp Schnase, Universities Allied for Essential Medicines Europe e.V.: 73% of the votes received

Foundations:  

• Jennifer Hart, Wellcome Trust: 100% of the votes received  

• Tobias Kahler, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation: 100% of the votes received

Think Tanks:  

• Anna-Katharina Hornidge, German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS): 60% of the votes received  

• Christoph Benn, Joep Lange Institute: 100% of the votes received

Private Sector: 

• Inke Fabian de Barreto, GOPA Worldwide Consultants GmbH: 100% of the votes received

• Alexander Boxler, German Health Alliance: 59% of the votes received 

Science and Research:  

• Eva Johanna Kantelhardt, Martin-Luther-University Halle: 48% of the votes received  

• Till Bärnighausen, Heidelberg Institute of Global Health: 35% of the votes received

Civil Society: 

• Fiona Uellendahl, World Vision Germany e.V.: 74% of the votes received

• Christian Julian Griebenow, Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Germany: 100% of the votes received 

The Exception: The Stakeholder Group of the Parliamentary Sector 

In the stakeholder group of the parliamentary sector, which consists of governments, members of parliament, and secondary administrations, we proceed differently. The members of the Bundestag in the Subcommittee on Global Health determine the representatives of the stakeholder group of the parliamentary sector:

• Tina Rudolph, MdB, German Parliament

• Knut Gerschau, MdB, German Parliament 

One third of the elected winners are representing their own stakeholder group for the second time

Seven of the 16 elected steering committee members were already members of the previous steering committee, including Sophie Gepp, Anna-Katharina Hornidge, Tobias Kahler, Paul-Philipp Schnase and Andreas Ullrich. "We would like to thank all members of the previous Steering Committee, who are stepping down from their positions as of June 30, for their commitment and for contributing their expertise - especially with a view to the strategic realignment of the Hub in 2021." 

Kick-off on 1 July 2022  

The new Steering Committee will meet for the first time in late May/early June for an informal pre-launch meeting with a handover.  The first official meeting of the Steering Committee will take place on the second day of the Global Health Talk (5-6 July 2022). The new Steering Committee will discuss their priorities, operational planning and strategic development together with the Head Office in order to further establish the Hub as the German cross-sectoral and multi-stakeholder Global Health Network.
